Glenora Bed and Breakfast is set in the tranquil crofting township of Keils on the Scottish Inner Hebridean Isle of Jura. Glenora is within walking distance of the Paps of Jura and within easy reach of a number of great scenic walks. A short walk will take you to a number of lovely beaches, where a seal is likely to be your only companion. Glenora`s two well appointed bedrooms will ensure that however active or relaxing your day has been, staying with us at Glenora will make your holiday complete.
Company description
Jura is part of the inner hebrides, located off the west coast of Scotland. Dominated by the paps, Jura ia an unspoilt wilderness. The islands population of approx. 190 live mainly on the east and south of the island, close to the islands single 30 mile road. The largest settlement is Craighouse, the location of the islands only store, hotel & bar, distillery, church, school and bistro. The west of the island is uninhabited but the wildlife is abundant.
There is some great examples of raised beaches, numerous caves and the whirlpool of Corryvrecken (deemed un-navigable by the Royal Navy) off the northern tip of Jura. Keils is situated 0.5 mile outside Craighouse and is a small quiet crofting township, also located here is the ancient Kilearnadil cemetery. What to do on Jura For the adventurist, why not climb a pap to enjoy the views as far as Ireland or take a trip to see the famous Corryvreckan whirlpool. Walk to Barnhill to see where George Orwell wrote 1984 or visit one of Jura`s numerous standing stones. For the naturalist, Jura has abundant wildlife which is easy to spot.
There are approx. 5, 000 red deer, wild goats, seals, various birds of prey including Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles and the occasional pod of dolphins. For the whisky lover, a visit to the jura distillery (which just celebrated its 200th birthday) is a must to see the second tallest stills in Scotland, plus they will even let you taste a wee dram.
